Director's Notes
I'm so proud of our 7th and 8th grade band members for the fantastic job they did performing at our first football game! Thank you all for a great night - and for all your help getting them there!
FOOTBALL GAMES Due to our band's successful performance at the first game, we have been asked to have the band present at all football games. Our plan is as follows:
The band members have 4 required football games this year (September 4, 23 and October 14/15 and 21/22 - The Exact Date and Times for the last two games are to be announced, based on how the season goes). These games will remain required and will be test performance grades for all students.
We will be adding three additional games that students may VOLUNTEER to attend: Tuesday, September 10 (6:30 p.m.), Tuesday, September 17 (6:30 p.m.), Tuesday, October 8 (6:30)
Students who volunteer will receive a bonus 100 test grade for each additional game they attend. Students who do not volunteer to participate will not be penalized and will be marked exempt from that performance.
Please sign up here for any additional football games your student can help with https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf2gpzaNMvHtSwUH4Nx-RUcGMqcL6AZ_soMg7loSazHp64pBA/viewform
Percussion: Please let us know which games you are attending as soon as possible. We need to see if the trailer will be required for transport!
I know our students are very involved and multi-talented - but if they are available for or planning to be at the additional games, I would greatly appreciate any and all that can come out and help! We want to represent ourselves as best we can! Thank you for considering and for those who are giving extra help!
JAZZ Our afterschool Jazz Band rehearsals start tomorrow, September 9 from 3:00-3:45. Students who have signed up on the Google Form will be expected. If additional students are interested in joining, it's not too late! Please email Ms. Parker (emily.parker@hsv-k12.org) if your student would like to join!

Additional Info
We will not be taking a bus to these games. We ask parents to transport their children to Milton Frank Stadium and home afterwards.
Chaperones - If you are available to chaperone, please indicate on the Google Form or email hcovemsband@gmail.com. (For HCMS away games, chaperones will need to purchase a ticket on GoFan.)
Parents who would like to attend the game will need to purchase tickets online at GoFan. Tickets typically "go live" on Go Fan on game days.
Please remember that Milton Frank has a clear bag policy for all guests!
The game should last until about 8:15 - depending on when we get started and whether or not they take heat breaks. Students may bring phones to text you before the 4th quarter. (Please plan to be in the vicinity for pick-up around 8:15 so we can get all students home in a timely manner.)
Percussion students will get their equipment off of the band trailer when they arrive and are responsible for loading it back up when we leave. Percussion will need to stay until we are sure everything has been loaded up.
Housekeeping issues for football games:
Students should bring a bottle of water for the stands and are welcome to wear sunglasses.
We will not be eating food in the stands and greatly appreciate your assistance with that matter.
Please encourage students to use the restroom before the game.
Students may have phones with them so they can notify you when the game is about to end but all phones must be put away during the game itself.
Band T-Shirt Order The remaining band shirt and hoodie order should be completed early this week and we will get orders organized and handed out as quickly as possible.
OPPORTUNITY - 6th GRADE/BEGINNING BAND: Our Beginning Band members are doing a fantastic job! They have started playing their first songs and are sounding terrific for this point in the year! We are inviting our Beginning Band members to join us at the HCMS/HJHS Football Game on Monday, September 23 at 4:30 p.m. This is not a requirement for beginning band members, but a great opportunity for them to perform! Beginners will be playing in the stands with the band and will be able to get the football experience! They can also join us for Battle of the Bands against HJHS!
Thank you!
Emily Parker, Director of Bands
