Director's Notes
Thank you to our Symphonic Band for their outstanding performance at the HCMS Veteran's Day program! We are so proud of them for their dedication to learning all of the military anthems to show honor and respect for our veterans!
Thank you for your assistance in making concert uniforms ready for this performance. Please help us prepare for our Holiday Concert and MPA Competition in the Spring by ensuring that your student has black dress shoes to go with their concert attire. These do not have to be fancy or expensive but it is imperative we are in dress uniform. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the band directors or band parents and let us be of assistance.
Special thanks and gratitude to all of our band parents and family members who are veterans or currently serving in the Armed Forces. Thank you for your service!
BUTTER BRAID FUNDRAISER Delivery will occur on November 14th with pick-up in the HCMS Cafeteria from 3:00-5:00 p.m. If your student sold Butter Braids online or in person, please make plans to come by the HCMS Cafeteria on Thursday, November 14 from 3-5 to pick up your orders. These do come frozen and we need to be sure they make it home before they thaw and expand! Small orders will be sent home with students on that day.
JAZZ Due to the Veteran's Day holiday on Monday, Jazz will meet on THURSDAY, November 14 this week from 3:00-3:45. Thank you for your flexibility!
LAWLER'S SPIRIT NIGHT Our next HCMS Band Spirit Night will be Thursday, November 14 at Lawler's BBQ in Hampton Cove! This applies for dine in or carry-out. Please make plans to support Lawler's and the HCMS Band!
SYMPHONIC BAND UNIFORMS If any part of your student's symphonic band uniform does not fit, please have them return it to Ms. Parker so we can swap it out for an alternate size. Please help us take care of this as soon as possible so we can order new sizes if necessary and have them in time for the Holiday Concert.
OPEN GATE SECURITY We have started using Open Gate security systems each morning at HCMS. We are working out how to expedite the purpose and appreciate our band students for being helpful and flexible! Thank you for your patience as we work through a new system.
BEGINNING BAND REHEARSAL On Thursday, November 21, our Beginning Band will be combining to rehearse and prepare for the Holiday Concert. This is a required event for all of our beginning band members and has been on the HCMS Band Calendar that was included in the First Day packet. Students will report to the band room afterschool and be provided with a snack. We will then combine in the Cafeteria/Gym to rehearse until 4:00 p.m. Bus riders are asked to work out alternate transportation just for this one afternoon. Students may be picked up in the car line at 4:00 p.m. We will need chaperone help on this day. Please email hcovemsband@gmail.com if you can help!
SUPPLIES Please be sure your student has all necessary items for band class, especially as we prepare for our big holiday concert. Clarinet and Saxophone players must have at least 3 good reeds at all times. Percussion (7th/8th Grade) must have a stick bag, yarn mallets, bell mallets, rubber mallets and drumsticks. Items may be purchased through the band program if it helps you. Please email Ms. Parker or Mr. Moran with questions.
HOLIDAY CONCERT Our Holiday Concert will be Friday, December 6 in the Huntsville High School Auditorium! This is a required event for all HCMS Band students and is sure to be an incredible night!
