Director's Notes
It's hard to believe that August is almost over! Please take note of the following important information for the HCMS Band!
EXCITING NEWS! We have just received word that we will be hiring an associate band director for HCMS! Interviews should be taking place over the next few weeks. I'll be keeping you posted with updates - but I am so excited and grateful that our students will be able to benefit from two full-time band directors!
Band Calendar FundraIser Thank you so much to all who supported our HCMS Band Calendar Fundraiser! We have made over $15,000 for our program! If your student still has funds to turn in, please have them bring them to the band box as soon as possible! Thank you for your support!
7th and 8th Grade Parents - Our first football game will be Wednesday, September 4th at 4:30 (right after Labor Day). This is a required event for our 7th and 8th grade band students. We will plan to meet at MIlton Frank at 4:00 that afternoon. Parents are responsible for transporting their students to and from the game. (I completely understand the challenges of the early football game time. Please do the best you can to arrive near that time.)
7th and 8th grade band students must have a lyre and flip folder for their music for that game. Please purchase a lyre and flip folder this week if you have not done so already. Students will need them in class on Friday so we can prepare them with small copies of music so we are ready for the game! As always, please let me know if I can be of help. Examples are pictured next to these announcements. **HCMS Percussion, HCMS Volleyball, HCMS Football and HCMS Cheer do not need to purchase lyres/flip folders.**
Beginning Band Parents - Please ensure that your student has a copy of the Tradition of Excellence Book 1 for their instrument (Flute, Bb Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone B.C., Tuba or Percussion). You can purchase these at our local music stores or on Amazon. A picture is in the margin of these announcements for your reference. Please contact me if you need any assistance! We have learned three notes already and are really about to start moving through the book and we do not want anyone to fall behind.
Band T-Shirt Order Our Band T-shirt order has been placed and will be in around Labor Day. I did order extra shirts just in case anyone missed the deadline. Please send in your payment ($15 on MySchoolFees/cash/check to HCMS Band) if you have not already done so!
Band Hoodies Band Hoodies are available for students who would like to purchase them. They are $40 and can be paid for by cash/check (HCMS Band). I have handed out what sizes we already had on hand and have placed an order for additional hoodies that should be ready in a few weeks. We will have extra for sale throughout the year if you are ever interested.
Thank you!
Emily Parker, Director of Bands

Add Flair to your instrument case to make it easier to find!
Don't forget your pencil and band folder.
