Director's Notes
Welcome Back! I am so excited about the upcoming school year!
Band Parent Meeting Our Band Parent Meeting will be Monday, August 12 in the HCMS Band Room. 6th Grade will meet at 6:00 p.m. and 7th/8th Grade at 7:00 p.m. Please do your best to attend - I will keep the meeting brief and provide a lot of information for the upcoming year. (Please note the date - there were some typos in the first day packet!)
WHEN TO BRING INSTRUMENTS 7th and 8th Grade students will start bringing instruments on Monday, August 5. 6th Grade will be working on rhythm and music note reading this week. We will try to begin with instruments around August 15 - but I will confirm that date with you ASAP!
Band T-Shirt Order We will be placing our annual Band T-shirt order at the end of next week. Please be sure to place your order on the Google Form by Wednesday, August 7. Payment can be cash or check (made to HCMS Band) or on My School Fees. (This is for the black band shirt that we use for the 6th Grade Band uniform and 7th and 8th Grade Football/Casual Uniform.)
Band Handbooks Band Handbooks/Paperwork packets were sent home on Thursday. Please don't be alarmed by all the information - I just like to provide as much info up front as possible! Please return the Handbook Form, Fair Share form, and Percussion form (7th/8th Grade Percussion only) as soon as possible to the band room.
RENTALS Rental paperwork has been sent home with 7th and 8th grade band students who will be renting school instruments. I will be working on 6th grade rental information and sending home paperwork this week. Please email me (emily.parker@hsv-k12.org) if you have questions about Instrument Rentals.
PERCUSSION 7th and 8th Grade Percussion - Included in your packet is an optional order form for mallets, drumsticks and stick bags. You are more than welcome to purchase these items on your own - but I will be placing an order for anyone who is interested. If you would like any of those items, please send in your payment and form by Wednesday, August 7.
BOOSTER OFFICERS NEEDED We still have a few band parent association officer positions available. Please contact Ms. Parker or the Band Parents (hcovemsband@gmail.com) for more information! We really appreciate your willingness to help!

Reminders for Daily Band Class Success:
All Band Members:
Ensure your name is on all band instruments, books and supplies. With so many coming in and out of the room each day, it really helps to be sure everyone keeps up with their things!
Add Flair to your instrument case to make it easier to find!
Don't forget your pencil and band folder.
Beginning Band: Be sure you have lined up an instrument AND the red Tradition of Excellence Book 1 for your instrument (Available at local Music Stores and on Amazon)
Symphonic Band (7th/8th Grade): bring your Blue Tradition of Excellence Book 2 daily (Available at local music stores and on Amazon)
Clarinet / Sax Players: Have at least 3 good reeds (strength 2.5) with you
Percussionists: Bring your drumsticks, yarn mallets, rubber mallets, bell (hard) mallets and stick bag
