Director's Notes
Thank you all for a successful first football game! Very proud of our students for representing us well and supporting our team.
Thank you for your support of our calendar fundraiser! Please return any outstanding donations to the band box as soon as possible so we can close our books promptly!
FOOTBALL GAME. Our next football game will be Tuesday, September 12. Please remember this is a required event for our 7th and 8th grade band students.
WHO: 7th and 8th Grade Band Students
WHAT TO WEAR: Band T-shirt/Hoodie, Khaki Shorts/Pants, Tennis Shoes
WHAT TO BRING: Instrument (please leave case in car), flip folder with music, lyre, bottle of water
WHERE: Milton Frank Stadium
WHEN: Call Time is 4:00 p.m. - We meet by the Front Gate. I understand the early games are challenging to get to. Please do the best you can and report to the game as soon as possible/as close to those times as you can.
Additional Info
We will not be taking a bus to these games. We ask parents to transport their children to Milton Frank Stadium and home afterwards.
Parents - Please sign up to chaperone in Charms. Find our calendar and click the yellow hand icon to sign up. We have a few more spots available and appreciate your help! Chaperones will be given free entry to the game.
Parents who would like to attend the game will need to purchase tickets online. (I’d recommend doing this ahead of time!) GoFan
Please remember that Milton Frank has a clear bag policy for all guests!
The game should last until about 6:15 - depending on when we get started. Students may bring phones to text you before the 4th quarter. (Please plan to be in the vicinity for pick-up around 6:15 so we can get all students home in a timely manner.)
Percussion students will get their equipment off of the band trailer when they arrive and are responsible for loading it back up when we leave. Percussion will need to stay until we are sure everything has been loaded up.
Due to the Tuesday football game, Jazz Band will be on Thursday, September 14 this week. I understand some may not be able to attend due to the different day - but please do what you can.
Band uniforms have been distributed this week. Many thanks to Sonia Fife for her hard work organizing and distributing uniforms! If you did not order a black band shirt or hoodie, we do have some extras available. Shirts are $15 (payable cash/check/MySchoolFees) and hoodies are $40 (payable cash/check to HCMS Band).
I am working on catching up on grades for band. Please know a “1” notated in the grade book merely means I have not received that assignment as of yet. It is a placeholder to make sure it catches your student’s attention and mine so we can remedy it quickly.
Our 7th/8th grade students have had 1 playing test in Schoology so far (Bb Concert Scale). Their other test grades will be performance grades from the football games.
Our 6th grade students will be taking their playing tests in class.
7th/8th Grade:
We have been measuring students who need concert uniforms in class this week. If you are a 7th/8th grade parent and have not completed the Symphonic Uniform survey, please do so as soon as possible so we can be sure to order enough uniforms for those that need them. Symphonic Uniform Survey

Additional Opportunities for 7th/8th Grade Band Members:
HHS Band Middle School Night. Is your 7th/8th grader considering becoming part of the HHS Marching Band? HHS Band is inviting all future HHS Band members to play with them at the September 22nd game against Bob Jones at Joe Davis Stadium! Additional information is available in the online registration form: Middle School Night Registration
All-State/District Honor Band. 7th and 8th Grade Band Students are eligible to try out for All-District (Best of Madison/Morgan/Limestone Counties) and All-State Band. Auditions are held in January. The scales, requirements and music are listed at: https://alaband.org/all-state-middle-school-audition-requirements/. Ms. Parker will also prepare packets and information later in the year, but this is a great way to get a head start on preparation. Private lessons are strongly encouraged for students considering All-State auditions - they are very competitive but a great learning opportunity! We will have help sessions available closer to audition time.
Reminders for Daily Band Class Success:
